While attending a summer festival down at Gibbons Park I wandered around a bit and snapped a few pictures. Not too many, though. It was a hot, lazy day and I was not feeling particularly inspired. My wife directed me to a large old willow nearby, so I went to investigate.
Definitely an old tree, gnarly and knobby as the willows around here seem to be. As I wandered around it, I noticed a recessed area among the eruptions in the bark. Nestled inside was this little pinecone. Which obviously begs the question: How did it get there?
Did an enterprising squirrel wrestle it up there? More likely it was a human, playing around. Perhaps a scavenger hunt, and this was one of the items to be found. Or just because. Who knows? But it can be kind of fun to imagine the reasons.
