Our neighbour across the street approached us in early June about organizing a street-wide fireworks display. If everyone kicked in $20, he’d buy the fireworks and set them off in front of his place. His property is actually a double-lot, so there’s room for a whole ‘nother house between him and the person next to him. A lot of people kicked in, and at 9:50pm on July 1, the neighbourhood started gathering on their porches, the curb, or the sidewalk in preparation for the fireworks.
Given that this was our first event, there were some logistical issues and a few duds in the package of fireworks, but overall it was a great success and everyone had a great time.
In between rounds of our fireworks, we were treated to the fireworks from someone around the corner, someone over around Wortley or Cathcart, plus we could see the top of the city-sponsored fireworks downtown. Sometimes it was tough to choose which way to look.
And in the midst of it all, the alien space bunny cloud floated by in front of the moon. This picture has only had minimal adjustments (exposure/contrast, etc), and has not been manipulated. This is straight out of the camera folks.
In (un)related news, our daughter posted her first blog entry today, In The Beginning…, hopefully you’ll have a look and cheer her on.
