What a week! It culminated with a trip to Toth’s Rock Shop in Ingersoll for our (mostly) yearly trip on Lilly’s birthday. We started going when she was 5 and, except for last year, have gone every year since. Aside from the amazing selection of rocks, fossils, minerals, and such, there is an almost magical backyard with a castle, obelisk, pyramid, and other goodies. One must look carefully, otherwise special treats will be missed.
Since our last visit, one of the trees lost a limb in a somewhat violent manner (lightning, or cracked off), leaving a scar on the trunk about 15 feet up. A carver saw this scar and offered to turn it into something. Now, Odin peers out from the leafy canopy, hidden, unless you know where to look. At first, I didn’t, and missed him. On my second trip out back, armed with directions, I found him.
Kind of like life in general, isn’t it? Sometimes we wander around and see things, but not necessarily what we want to see, or what we are looking for. Sometimes we just need a little direction to find the hidden that is around us.
