This week’s self-challenge was to shoot only using my 50mm lens, which has not seen much use since January.
While I love the versatility of the 18-200mm lens, the 50mm puts some serious restrictions on how I was able to frame everything. For example, with the 18-200mm, I can leave the lens at 18mm, step off the curb in front of our house, step back 4 feet and shoot the entire front garden. With the 50mm lens, I had to go about 3/4 of the way across the street to get the same look. However, the 50mm can open up more to let more light in, allowing for faster shutter speeds and a shallower depth of field.
This week’s selected image doesn’t show off either of those aspects, but it’s my favourite shot this week. It was taken on the Wortley Rd bridge over Horton St at about 6:50 in the morning earlier this week. I just really like how everything came together in this shot: the sun, the clouds, the tree, everything.
Check out the Gallery page. I have added some additional links in there so you can see some of the other photos I have posted that have not been selected for this year’s Project 52. Just random photos that I like for one reason or another, or to show off some post-processing that I have played with.
Thanks for stopping by.
